    Monetary Policy Committee has maintained status quo with regard to the policy repo rate and retained the accommodative policy stance.

    The objective is to revive and sustain growth on a durable basis and continue to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the economy.

    Key rates are Repo Rate (4.0%), Reverse Repo Rate (3.35%), MSF and Bank Rate (4.25 %) which remained unchanged to retained the real GDP growth projection for 2021-22 @ 9.2 %. Real GDP growth is projected at 7.8 per cent for 2022-23. CPI inflation is projected @ 5.3% for 2021-22. MPC also noted that consumer price inflation.

    Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been conducting Financial Literacy Week (FLW) every year since 2016 to propagate financial education messages on a relevant theme. The FLW 2019, FLW 2020 and FLW 2021 were focused on “Farmers”, “MSMEs” and “Credit Discipline and Credit from Formal Institutions” respectively. The theme for this year’s Financial Literacy Week is “Go Digital, Go Secure”, which aligns with one of the strategic objectives of the National Strategy for Financial Education: 2020-2025.

Chandigarh - Banking

  • UT Chandigarh is covered with 416 Branches of 42 Banks.
  • Chandigarh UT has 12 public sector banks with 228 urban branches.
  • There are 19 private sector banks with 130 urban branches.
  • There are 7 Small Finance banks with 12 branches
  • The UT has 3 foreign banks viz. Citi Bank, HSBC Bank and Standard Chartered Bank with 3 branches.
  • There are three state co-operative banks viz. Chandigarh State Co-op. Bank, Punjab State Co-op Bank and Haryana State Co-op. Bank and a District Level Co-op. Bank named Ropar Central Co-op Bank with 46 branches.
  • Total Advances by Banks in Chandigarh as on 31.03.2023 is Rs.82166 crore.
  • Total Deposits of Banks in Chandigarh as on 31.03.2023 is Rs. 107769 crore.
  • Overall CD Ratio in Chandigarh as on 31.03.2023 is 76.24% CD ratio in Chandigarh is well above the national goal of 60%.
  • Under Priority Sector Advances: There exists 61189 accounts in agriculture amounting Rs. 2133.67 crore, 41714 were funded under MSME with Rs. 13016.93 crore while in other priority sector 32829 borrowers were aided with Rs. 2419.16 crores as on 31.03.2023. As on 31.03.2023, 135732 borrowers were financed under total priority sector advances amounting Rs. 17569.77 crores.
  • Agriculture Advances: under Farm Credit 59950 entities were granted loan amounting Rs. 736.89 crore, 96 borrowers were provided Rs. 245.10 crore as Agriculture Infrastructure and 1143 borrowers were provided with Ancillary agriculture loans worth Rs. 1151.67 crore. Thus, total agriculture advances were extended to 61189 entities with Rs. 2133.67 lacs as on 31.03.2023.
  • The overall achievement of banks under Annual Credit Plan 2022-23 up to March.23 was 166% the achievement under Agriculture, MSME and Other Priority Sector was 311%, 184% and 41% respectively.
  • 312350 accounts under PRADHAN MANTRI JAN-DHAN YOJANA (PMJDY) AS ON 31.03.2023.
  • Under PMSBY the banks have enrolled 401332 persons, under PMJJBY enrolled 137880 persons and in Atal Pension Yojana (APY) enrolled 54939 persons upto 31.03.2023.
  • Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana was launched to “fund the un-funded” by bringing such enterprises to the formal financial system and to extend affordable credit to them. The banks in Chandigarh have given loan amount of 536.11 crore to 76362 persons under MUDRA Scheme.
  • The “Stand Up India” Programme launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 5th April 2016, has achieved since inception of the scheme Banks in Chandigarh have given loan under Stand Up India to 293 beneficiaries amounting to Rs. 3633.37 lacs..
